The production finish line is in sight...

While 2 scenes still stand in the way of me saying "that's a WRAP!" and finally meaning it, we residents of layover-ville have managed to keep ourselves busy.  Alex and I filmed our Kickstarter thank you videos in McCarren park the other weekend, so keep a google alert or an eyeball on your virtual mail boxes for those.  We've also simultaneously started the post-production process.  I'm only days away from pulling out the secret weapon, Matt "clip cutter" Kazman, to take the reigns of the keyboard and mouse and really edit this whole thing together.

In other ostensibly related/shameless self promoting news, I played my first show with a full band last night at Sidewalk Cafe in the East Village.  You can check out a video here to see how after almost 24 years, I still haven't learned how to open my eyes.  Speaking of opening, we opened for the wonderfully talented Johanna Samuels, who is in the middle of doing a residency there.  Check out a new song from her set here.

Spectacle Theater

Spectacle is a really cool independent theater in Brooklyn. The programmers are some good friends who do a whole lot to bring audiences cool, rare movies, and support independent filmmakers (fun fact: Laying Over held auditions inside the theater!).

So if you haven't been you should go check out the theater. Tonight they have a great lineup, which I wrote about for filmmaker Matt Wolf's blog. There's a lot of crazy cross-promotion going on here, so to sum it up in linkage: check out Spectacle, check out Matt Wolf's upcoming doc Teenage, and if you have time go see Seventeen tonight at Spectacle. I'll see you there!

Talented friends

Check out members of the LO family, Heaven's Gate, playing "Salome" on Newtown Radio here. You'll see them perform live in Laying Over. And in the meantime, they're putting out their 7" High Riser this April/May on Fire Talk Records.

Back in a New York groove...

After almost two months away from production, we finally jumped back into the swing of things this weekend with some new faces. While Saturday was a coooold and snooooowy night in Williamsburg, yesterday was warm and intimate as we shot at Awol Erizku's photo studio in Noho. Awol's a great guy and a talented photographer who's work you can check out here along with some candid pics of your very own happy little production family.

2012 here we come

2011 was definitely the year of Laying Over. It was last January that Jake and I met for the first time to talk about it. Between raising the money, casting, finding the crew that helped make it happen, and filming, it's been a wild ride. Entering 2012, we will soon start post-production. We want to send out a big Thank You to everyone - the donors, cast, crew, extras, Sips & Bites, Heaven's Gate, Kevin McCarthy (whose work you see above), our parents, our bosses (who let us take off work), our friends (who let us invade their apartments), and who can forget Mohammed the taxi driver?! On behalf of everything and everyone, thank you thank you thank youuuu from the bottom of our silly filmmaker hearts.

As for Rachel, this is what I think she would say: Just as low as the lows were this year, the highs of 2011 were extraordinarily great. I think I'm going to remember 2011 as one of the best, worst, and most important years of my life, all at the same time. I have a good feeling about 2012...but I hope Meredith doesn't make me wear a stupid party hat tonight...

"Laying Over" does Florida!

With (almost all) principal photography just a little over a week away, I thought I'd share some production stills from a little scene we shot down south last weekend starring the bold D. Seth Gleeson and beautiful Fort Myers beach...
